"MOM, THE GOOD SHEPHERD"
John 10:11-18
PUPPETS: Dad & Butch

DAD: Say, Butch, do you know today is?

BUTCH: I think that it is Sunday. Let's see, I took a bath last night. Yep, today is Sunday.

DAD: Well, yes, it's Sunday but what is special about today? Haven't you seen all the ads on TV and in the Newspapers?

BUTCH: I guess not. What are you talking about?

DAD: Butch, today is Mother's Day. This is a very special day when we honor our mothers for all that they mean to us and all that they do for us.

BUTCH: Oh, you mean like when they cook our meals, launder our clothes, take us where we need to go, and make sure we do the right things and make good choices.

DAD: Mothers are certainly a very necessary part of our family lives.

BUTCH: Yeah, I like it when mom kisses my boo-boos and makes them all better. DAD: Butch, are you still doing that? I thought you gave that up when you turned 16.

BUTCH: Just kidding, Dad. But I do think about it when I hurt myself.

DAD: Moms are like shepherds, in a way. They guide us toward the right path without our even realizing it. Sometimes when we are young and don't have much experience making decisions, our moms are right there helping us decide the right way.

BUTCH: You know, Dad, I can remember Mom helping me a whole lot of times when I didn't know what to do. Like when I was in the second grade and two girls liked me but I didn't like them but I did like another girl. I was so confused.

DAD: And mom helped you make the right move?

BUTCH: Yeah, but when I did as she suggested all three girls got mad at me but it was all for the best anyway.

DAD: Butch, do you remember during our family devotions the other night we talked about Jesus being the Good Shepherd?

BUTCH: I do now, I thought all this was sounding familiar.

DAD: Well, Jesus said that He knows His own sheep and they know Him and also that He would lay down His life for His sheep, because He is their Good Shepherd. You can read all about this story in John 10:11-18.

BUTCH: You know, I'm really glad I have such a good Mom and even more glad that Jesus has me. That was one decision Mom helped me with some time ago. How about you, kids? Have you made your decision about letting Jesus be your Good Shepherd? Well, think about it and talk to your Moms about it.

DAD: That's really good advice, Butch. Say, let's plan to take Mom out for lunch after church because she's a very special lady and this is her special day. See you later, Kids.
