BUTCH: Dad, I saw you with a piece of log before we came to church. What was that all about.
DAD: Well, do you remember just before Louise got back from vacation there was a storm south of town?
BUTCH: I sure do. Some of our members came real close to being hurt. I remember that Jerry & Lois Custer got caught in the middle of it.
DAD: That's right, Butch. God was watching over them. Well, that piece of log came from that storm.
BUTCH: Well, there were a lot of trees down where Jerry & Lois were at. What makes that piece so special?
DAD: You see, the person who gave the log to me lives on the edge of where the storm was.
BUTCH: That must have been dangerous.
DAD: It sure was. And what you couldn't see, because you were not close enough, is that there is a straw sticking into that log. Isn't it amazing how the wind could take that little straw and drive it right into the wood without even bending it?
BUTCH: Wow, I don't see how it could do that. It sure wouldn't work if you tried to pound it in.
DAD: No, it took a stronger force than we could exert -- a special kind of power. I've been thinking about that all morning. There are some things I need to do.
BUTCH: Like what, Dad?
DAD: Like teach a Sunday School class.
BUTCH: What's that got to do with that old log?
DAD: Well, I wanted to take the class, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hold their interest. When I saw the straw in the log the Lord showed me that I have a special power available to me - the Holy Spirit. I believe I can be of help in Sunday School. And I thought about you.
BUTCH: Me?
DAD: Yes, you. You could sing in the choir.
BUTCH: But I get so nervous and I (pause) but I have a special power available to me, too, don't I? I think I'll talk to Chris about being in the choir. God will help me sing.
DAD: How about you boys and girls. Are you too weak to do the things you should? God has given you a talent. Are you using it? Ask God to help you and then say yes to the opportunities.
