PUPPETS: Butch & Sally

BUTCH: Hi, everybody. I'd like for you to meet Sally, my new friend.

SALLY: (Sally has a very pronounced Southern drawl) Howdy, you all.

BUTCH: Gee, Sally, you talk funny. Are you from the South or somethun?

SALLY: Yes-siree-Bob. I'm from the South.

BUTCH: Where - Georgia or Tennessee or maybe Kentucky?

SALLY: No, I'm from South Garrett.

BUTCH: Oh, Sally, you're just funnin' with me.

SALLY: No, I'm not. But when I was a little girl I lived in Alabama.

    BUTCH: Oh, that explains everything.

SALLY: And my Mama taught me how to make a cake.

BUTCH: Ummm, boy, do I love cake.

SALLY: Well, this cake had eggs, milk and flour and shortening and sugar and chocolate.

BUTCH: Wait just a minute - what's that shortening stuff? Does it make the cake littler? That's what happens when my Mom shortenings my pants.

SALLY: No, no. It's a very necessary part of the cake. All those ingredients are important to make the cake taste good but by themselves, some of them wouldn't taste good at all. Have you ever eaten a cup of flour? Or a raw egg yolk?

    BUTCH: Oh, yuck. Sounds awful.

SALLY: Those things are kinda like our hard times. We might say, Yuck, what's that problem doing in my life? But that's how we get stronger because we work through our problems.

BUTCH: I see. Good times and bad times are all a part of our lives just like flour and raw eggs and shortening and sugar and chocolate are all parts of a cake. It takes everything to make it complete.

SALLY: That's why I like you so much Butch, you're so smart. And cute.

    BUTCH: Oh - h - h - h, Sally. You're embarrassing me. I'd better go. See you, kids.

    SALLY: Bye, bye, you all.
