PUPPET SCRIPT

By Louise Ferry

"THE MISSING PIECE"
Psalm 130
PUPPETS: Dad & Chris

DAD: Hey, Chris, what was all that on the telephone?

CHRIS (glumy) That was Cindy Lawson, she called to tell me she got a job for the summer baby-sitting the Harris kids. Isn't that awful?

DAD: I think it sounds like a nice opportunity for Cindy.

CHRIS: (grumbling) But I wanted that job, why does Cindy get all the breaks?

DAD: You sound just a little bit jealous. Cindy is your friend. You should be glad for her. Besides, you'll find other things to do this summer.

CHRIS: (pouting) No, I won't (perks up) Maybe if I call Cindy back and tell her how much I wanted the job, she'll let me have it. I've done plenty of things for her.

DAD: I think you ought to let the matter drop.

CHRIS: (whining) But I'm sure God wants me to have this job.

DAD: (dad looks down as if he is doing something with his hands)

CHRIS: (puzzled) Dad, what are you doing?

DAD: I'm trying to make this piece so it will fit my puzzle. If I cut off this bump here and glue it onto the other side, I can make it fit.

CHRIS: (scolding) You know that won't work. Besides, you need that piece somewhere else in the puzzle.

DAD: You are not catching on are you?

    CHRIS: No!!

DAD: That puzzle piece represents you. Trying to jam that piece into a place where it doesn't fit is like you trying to get your own way about that job. Even if you succeeded, you would miss out on whatever God had planned for you.

CHRIS: I see. I know you're right, of course. And I love the way you point things out to me.

DAD: How about you, boys and girls? Do you get upset when things don't go the way you want? Remember that God is in control, and He knows what's best for you. Let Him put you in the right place at the right time. Be patient and wait for Him.

CHRIS: Bye boys and girls, see you soon.
