"SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY"
John 3:16
PUPPETS: Grandpa & Johnny

(Johnny is offstage banging on a pan)

GRANDPA: Dab-nab-it young'in - what are you doing?

JOHNNY: (Puppet up) Well, Gramps, I was just announcing Souper Bowl Sunday.

GRANDPA: You mean - - - that great big football game between the Packers and the Broncos to find out who is the cham - peeeen of the whoooole world?

JOHNNY: Shucks no, Gramps, that's Super Bowl, spelled S-U-P-E-R B-O-W-L!!! I'm talking about Souper Bowl, spelled S-O-U-P-E-R B-O-W-L

GRANDPA: Sounds the same to me.

JOHNNY: It may sound the same but it sure ain't.

GRANDPA: You mean we are going to have a bowl of chili going up against a bowl of potato soup to see who's the winner?

JOHNNY: No Gramps ! ! ! You don't quite have the hang of it yet.

GRANDPA: I can just see it now. Chili up against Potato soup and the whole mess all over the field. Yuck.

JOHNNY: Ok, Gramps, let me explain -- On Super Bowl Sunday a lot of Christians have another kind of Souper Bowl -- the S-O-U-P-E-R kind. This is the day when we can help others less fortunate then US'INS. If every grownup here today would give just $1 we all would be winners.

GRANDPA: Sure sounds like a good idea to me. Let's pass that soup kettle.

JOHNNY: You're right, Gramps and we are going to help our retired ministers and missionaries with a love gift.

    GRANDPA: A love gift?

JOHNNY: Yes. One time each year all of this money is divided up among all the retired ministers and missionaries.

GRANDPA: What do they do with it?

JOHNNY: They pay for new eye glasses - or denture repairs - or pay past due medical bills - all sorts of important stuff like that.

GRANDPA: That's a SUPER IDEA - Let's pass the kettle and help God's retired servants. Here, Louise, you take the kettle - My dollar is already in there. See you boys and girls - See you, Johnny.

JOHNNY: See you Gramps. (Puppets down)
