SALLY: Mother, I was walking passed Pastor's office and he had this thing with a big handle on it and he would put a piece of paper in it and push the handle down. Do you know what it is?
MOM: Well, Sally, that was the church seal. Pastor Art was sealing baptism certificates. It has the Church's name on it and it marks it so that no one can erase it.
SALLY: Do all churches have seals?
MOM: Some do. Some companies do. So do the 50 states of the United States. Our country has a seal too. It is a Latin phrase that means "Out of many, one."
SALLY: Hey, that's neat.
MOM: There's another important seal, too, Sally.
SALLY: What's that, Mom?
MOM: Well, Sally, you find it talked about in 2 Timothy 2:19, which says, "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this SEAL, The Lord knoweth them that are His."
SALLY: That sounds interesting, but what does it mean?
MOM: You see, Sally, when we become Christians we are sealed with the Holy Spirit and I guess we could say that the motto of our seal is "The Lord knoweth them that are His".
SALLY: It's kinda like our country's seal or the church's seal, it's something that can't be erased.
MOM: And when people see that special mark on a baptism certificate or letter, they know it's from the church.
SALLY: That is very important.
MOM: Yes, Sally, and when we're sealed with the Holy Spirit, people should be able to see that we belong to the Lord.
SALLY: You mean we are different than before.
MOM: I believe you have it, Sally. Others should be able to see by your life that you have His seal upon you.
SALLY: I think I have learned something here this morning, Mom. Thanks. See you everybody.
MOM: Bye, Sally. Bye everybody.
